Fire Department

The mission of the Fulton fire Department is to prevent fires through Educational Programs and Fire Inspections for the City of Fulton. The Fulton Fire Department, consisting of employees and volunteers, responds to all emergencies within the City of Fulton and to mutual aid calls with other departments and fire districts. Further, the Fulton Fire Department provides emergency service for vehicle accidents and all other emergencies, including hazardous materials, possible drowning, and other such occurrences.

The City of Fulton Fire Department was established in the late 1890’s although the exact date is unknown. Prior to the establishment of the City department, the only fire protection service was provided by the Fulton State Hospital from 1874 to the 1890’s.

Today, the City of Fulton has is a combination fire department with twenty paid personnel and eight volunteers. Besides the basic fire fighting rescue and suppression duties the fire department has a Hazardous Materials Response Team consisting of 4 technicians and 6 operations personnel. The department has a Dive Rescue and Recovery Team sporting 9 divers. Other fire service certification levels include:

  10 State of Missouri Certified Firefighter I and II
  3 State of Missouri Certified Investigators
  3 State of Missouri Certified Fire Service Instructors
  1 State of Missouri Certified Fire Service Inspector
  4 State of Missouri Emergency Medical Technicians

Public Education
The Fulton Fire Department has an active Public Education Division. The department offers station tours and will go to schools as well as community events upon request. “Sparky the Fire Dog” is a popular character with the children. “Sparky” talks to the children about fire safety and will even sing a couple of fire safety songs. “Sparky” will talk to parents too so to make sure they are fire safe as well. “Sparky” has visited children in hospitals, gone to birthday parties, and has made guest appearances with “Uncle James” from “Pepper and Friends.”
